Quick Summary

This article sorts out two types of viable profitable opportunities in China's current consumer sector, and provides core actionable insights and practical directions for general readers.

1. Opportunity of going overseas to emerging markets: In emerging markets such as Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America, the penetration rate of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) is far lower than in China, leaving large market space, low competition and much higher profit margins than domestic markets. Instead of sticking to the traditional model of exporting products through local agents, companies should follow Leshushi's example: moving the entire industrial chain overseas, establishing local manufacturing and distribution systems, and committing to long-term local operation. This approach delivers far higher returns than domestic business, as demonstrated by Leshushi's case, where the company achieved a net profit margin of 21.6%, far outperforming the domestic industry average.

2. Opportunity of deep cultivation in the domestic market: For those who choose not to go overseas, focusing on a niche market segment is a solid alternative. Rather than chasing trendy sectors or expanding blindly, companies can deliver stable long-term returns by refining products to excellence and serving targeted users well. Tan Carpenter, which has focused on wooden combs for more than 20 years and maintained stable profits and healthy cash flow, is a representative example. Today's consumer opportunities have taken on new forms, and the core competence required is committing to the right direction and sticking to it long-term.

This article shares two types of growth opportunities and successful practices for consumer brands, offering high reference value for brand layout and development.

1. Experience in expanding into emerging overseas markets: Emerging markets such as Africa have extremely low FMCG penetration and far less intense competition than China. With the right approach, brands can achieve very high profit margins. Brands should abandon the old path of pure product export through agents, and instead implement full localized industrial chain layout: local manufacturing, local hiring, and local channel distribution. This not only cuts overall costs and enables deep channel penetration, but also secures pricing power. Brands can capture market share from global giants by offering products of equal quality at lower prices. Leshushi, which ranks first in both diaper and sanitary napkin markets in Africa with a 21.6% net profit margin, is a typical successful example.

2. Development direction for domestic brands: Brands don't have to pursue large-scale expansion across product categories. Focusing on one niche market and refining products and user engagement can deliver stable profits and strong pricing power. Tan Carpenter, which has specialized in wooden combs for more than 20 years with stable profits and healthy cash flow, is a strong example. Consumer trends have already diverged today, and brands can choose a path that suits their own resources.

This article identifies two types of new growth opportunities for sellers, summarizes replicable experience and highlights risk warnings, offering guidance for sellers' business layout.

1. Opportunity in emerging overseas markets: FMCG penetration in underdeveloped regions such as Africa is extremely low, with large room for market growth. The traditional agent-based export model adopted by most sellers does not work in Africa: without localization, it is impossible to cut costs or expand distribution channels. Sellers should learn from Leshushi's asset-heavy localization model: moving the entire production and distribution system to the local market and committing to long-term operation. This approach delivers far higher profit margins than domestic business. No monopoly has formed in these markets yet, leaving abundant entry opportunities for new players. Leshushi has already validated this model with a 21.6% net profit margin, making it a highly valuable reference.

2. Domestic opportunity and risk warning: For sellers who choose not to go overseas, deep cultivation in a niche market is a viable alternative. Rather than chasing trendy trends or expanding blindly, sellers can achieve stable returns by refining products and serving targeted users well, with Tan Carpenter as a typical example. Sellers should guard against the get-rich-quick mindset: no matter which path you take, long-term deep cultivation is the only way to build competitive barriers.

This article points out new business opportunities and transformation directions for Chinese domestic manufacturers, offering valuable inspiration for factory development.

1. Transformation opportunity through emerging market expansion: China's domestic FMCG and other categories are already oversaturated with cut-throat competition, squeezing profit margins to extremely low levels and leaving many factories with overcapacity struggling to survive. By contrast, similar products in emerging markets such as Africa enjoy low penetration, large growing demand, limited competition and high profit margins. Factories can learn from Leshushi's model: transferring the complete production system to emerging markets for localized manufacturing. This not only helps absorb domestic overcapacity, but also delivers far higher profit margins than domestic operation. Localization also enables factories to build cost and channel advantages, and quickly capture local market share.

2. Domestic transformation direction through deep cultivation: For factories that do not want to go overseas, deep cultivation in a niche segment is a solid alternative. By focusing on a single product category, refining product quality, and deepening user value instead of blindly expanding product lines and scale, small but focused operations can still deliver stable cash flow and profits. Tan Carpenter, which has focused on wooden combs for more than 20 years and maintained stable profits, is an excellent reference. This path is more stable and sustainable for many small and medium-sized factories.

This article sorts out new development trends in the current consumer industry, summarizes pain points of industry players, and points out new service opportunities for service providers.

1. New industry development trends: The consumer industry has moved past the era of earning quick money through traffic and scale. Opportunities have now split into two tracks: full industrial chain localization in emerging overseas markets, and long-term deep cultivation in domestic niche segments. Both tracks emphasize asset-heavy operation and long-termism, which creates new market space for service providers.

2. Core pain points of clients: Clients expanding into emerging overseas markets generally lack experience in local compliance, capabilities to build supply chains, and access to local channel resources. They also lack experience in coping with fluctuations in raw material prices and logistics. For clients focusing on domestic niche segments, they lack capabilities to refine and upgrade products and operate targeted user engagement.

3. New opportunities for service providers: Service providers can develop targeted service offerings. For overseas clients, they can provide local compliance consulting, supply chain building and matching, and channel expansion services. They can also leverage leading industry resources to help clients secure stable logistics and raw material supply to cope with market volatility. For domestic niche clients, they can provide product design and upgrading, and targeted user operation services to tap into new growth markets.

This article summarizes new changes in the current consumer sector, and points out directions for platforms to adjust investment attraction and operation strategies, helping platforms avoid risks and capture new opportunities.

1. New changes in merchant demand: In the past, merchants generally pursued asset-light rapid expansion, and their core demand for platforms was traffic matching. Today, more and more merchants are moving toward two directions: asset-heavy expansion into emerging overseas markets, and deep cultivation in domestic niche segments. Their demand for platforms has shifted to local resource matching, supply chain supporting services, and long-term operation support.

2. New direction for platform investment attraction: Platforms can proactively target two types of high-quality merchants: manufacturers and brands with manufacturing capabilities that want to enter emerging markets, and small but focused niche brands that have deep cultivation in domestic segments. Both types of merchants have strong profitability and stable cash flow, which can bring long-term stable returns to platforms, and are much more sustainable than hype-driven trend-chasing merchants.

3. Risk mitigation direction: Platforms should adjust their support and evaluation mechanisms, avoid blindly favoring high-growth, concept-driven merchants. These merchants have weak anti-risk capabilities and are prone to bring operational volatility to platforms. Instead, platforms should prioritize merchants committed to long-term deep cultivation, support players with genuine product competitiveness, and reduce overall operational risks for the platform.

This article identifies new trends in China's current consumer industry, summarizes two emerging successful business models that challenge traditional perceptions, offering important reference value for industrial research.

1. New industry trends: It has been widely believed that China's consumer sector no longer has new opportunities, and consumer companies must pursue large scale and high growth to create value. This article argues that consumer opportunities have now diverged, and there are two sustainable development models, breaking the traditional capital logic that only values scale and growth speed. The industry has evolved from a single development path to a diversified landscape.

2. Two emerging business models: The first is full industrial chain localized overseas expansion. Different from traditional cross-border e-commerce or agent export models, this model moves the entire manufacturing and distribution system to emerging markets and commits to long-term local operation, which can deliver high profit margins and large market share, with Leshushi as a typical representative. The second is extreme deep cultivation in niche segments. Instead of pursuing scale and category expansion, this model focuses on a single small category, refines products, and achieves stable profits and strong user stickiness, with Tan Carpenter as a typical representative.

3. New research insights: The core competitiveness of the future consumer industry will no longer be resources or traffic, but the capability to commit to long-term deep cultivation. This provides a new direction for industrial policy research and business model research.

I am a Brand Seller Factory Service Provider Marketplace Seller Researcher Read it again.
